A Happy and Healthy New Year to you all.
The new year was less than an hour old when the group received its first emergency call of 2010. Due to the very high demands on the ambulance service we attended a call in Ringwood and assisted a casualty until the ambulance arrived. We ended 2009 in much the same way. The unprecedented demands on the ambulance service during the severe ice events on 23rd December resulted in the group putting out two responders in different vehicles to attend calls in Milford on Sea, Fordingbridge, Ringwood and New Milton. On the 28th Decemeber we had 3 calls in one hour as the seasonal demands on the ambulance service continued. Now that the holiday season is drawing to a close we hope that the extra burdens on the ambulance service will reduce.
However, we do know that the next couple of months will be cold and is likely to bring ice or more snow. (Well this is mid winter in Britain- we have just been used to not having these conditions for so long.) When the weather is extreme as it may well be, please heed the advice from the weather centre and the emergency services and do not go out unless you really have to. A number of the casualties we attended on 23rd December sustained serious injuries simply because they wanted to walk the dog or get a paper. It's just not worth it.
Ambulances are not immune from the problems snow can create and will delay their response.
Bransgore & District Rotary Club who have been such wonderful supporters of our group, presented us with a very generous donation towards group funds recently, whilst also presenting a cheque to Julia's House who do excellent work. We extend grateful thanks to all members of Bransgore Rotary, They provided the initial funding for the group in 2005 and have been supporters ever since.
Our very hard working and generous Rotary club present Julia's House and Bransgore Community First Responders with cheques to support their work. Jan 2010
As always, we desperately need committed local people to come forward and help us. Just a few hours a week will help us "Make a Difference in Bransgore". Please consider it and read the information leaflet available from the What's Hot section on the Home page.
