January 2012
Welcome to 2012 and we wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year.
In the local Village News article in December and on our news webpage for December 2011, we promised that our Christmas gift to the community we serve, would be to have a volunteer responder on call throughout the Festive season. I am pleased to say that the two responders who gave up their Christmas drink and festivity performed a total of 81 hours on call between Christmas Eve and the end of the bank holiday on 27th December as well as a significant number of hours up to and including New Years Day. Four emergency calls were attended between Christmas Eve afternoon and Christmas Day alone. (one at 0125 on Christmas morning). We wish all our patients well and a speedy recovery.
As a result of a request from our group to the ambulance service, we have been issued with new 3 G phones and signal booster devices to ensure that, wherever our responders live, the mobile telephone signal that alerts them to a call is 100% reliable. This has cost the group nothing and we wish to say thanks to South Central Ambulance Service. There are some interesting changes coming our way with the rationalisation of Community First Responder arrangements across the South Central Ambulance Service area of Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire and they will assist us greatly in how we manage our group and the excellent support given to us by our community. Now is the time to join us if you w ant to be in at the beginning of the new arrangements. Don't hesitate to call us on 01425 659899 and we can call you back for a no-commitment chat.
Not strictly a Responder thing but have a look at the Red Cross "app" for downloading to iPhone, Androids, Skype and Blackberry if you have a Smartphone. A really good emergency response guide. Not for you......? Then offer it on to your children, friends and others. It could help save a life and, Yes, I do have it on my personal phone.
