Bransgore Community Responders love a challenge and the threat of bad weather did not put us off taking up the very kind offer we received, to have a stand at the New Forest Show. Although the brand new ambulance offered for the stand from the ambulance service failed to make it through the mud, it didn't stop us, although we did have to resite from our original stand to a drier stand at Stand 150 just up the road.
We had a superb first day at the show and although the weather forecast for the next two days was not so good, we got sunburnt on day 1. However in spite of the initial mud-which did dry out in the morning - and the sunburn, we were able to meet a great many visitors and tell them all about what Community Responders do. We gave out so many leaflets to visitors and New Forest related businesses that we had almost run out by the middle of Day 2 when the rain returned with a vengeance. We had some visits from our friends in the press and gave a radio interview.
Sadly, in spite of the best efforts of the organisers we were unable to return for Day 3. Our response car had to be towed off on Day 2 because it just couldnt make it through the mud and we felt we could not risk the car and equipment trying to get back on for Day 3. We do hope that we will get another chance to attend what was, in spite of the weather a really excellent show. All credit and thanks to the show organisers and the stewards who themselves were all volunteers.
We were fortunate to have a visit from 7 year old Tony Rutherford from Ringwood on Day 1 who showed us exactly how CPR should be done. Thank you Tony, luckily we had a photographer on hand to record the moment.
